We have been waiting at Horton for all the factors to click into place to pull-out Dennis Horton’s original recipe for barrel select Viognier. 2020 may have been filled with obstacles but it was had some opportunities. When 2 rows of Viognier came in with the perfect numbers - We grabbed the opportunity and processed this Viognier with 12 hours of skin time. This can be very risky; the process needs to be constantly monitored and the winemaker needs to use a deft hand. we gathered all our resources including calling our winemaker from 30 years ago that did the original process with Dennis Horton - Alan Kinne. The results are breath taking. For those that remember the original it brought tears to our eyes and for the new comers it has been an eye-opening experience. The aromas are enchanting with subtle and nuances of fruit, the honeysuckle that is indicative of Viognier is undeniable. The midpalate is explosive and the oak aging gives this wine robust finish.
